#The Venom of the Word#
Oh, if the word were but a distant sound,
Yet some are poison, deadly and unbound.
A thread so slight, you deem it without ground,
But 'tis a rope that destiny has wound.
It strangles bonds, the heart's warm ardor slays,
A quake of love, that soul in fury frays.
Warmth of encounters turns to chilling haze,
Friendship's fair gardens, deserts of sad days.
Slander, accursed be its every hand,
Like venom, through our very paths it's spanned.
It leaves no green, nor aught within the land,
A heather fire, consuming at command.
A serpent's whisper in the deepest night,
The ill spreads forth, consuming all in sight.
The bridge of trust collapses, losing might,
An unseen evil, loathed with all our light.
Like feathers scattered to the winds afar,
We hope to gather, but it leaves a scar.
For the word is an arrow, piercing where you are,
A deep, deep wound, no healing can it bar.
Oh, comrades on life's path, remember true,
What a Prophet, guiding light, said to you:
"Speak what is good, or silence you pursue."
For silence is wisdom, words a gain anew.
The good word builds, a structure rising high,
The evil word, a ruin 'neath the sky.
Beware this breath, that makes all friendship die,
Transforming even paradise to cry.
